Limit the number of students

The number of students in law school needs to be limited. Classes are getting larger and larger and in addition to resulting in articling shortages, individual students aren't getting as valuable an experience despite the rising cost of law school. I know at my law school the classrooms aren't even big enough for the size of the classes they are admitting now since the building was built so long ago. And with the opening of a new law school in N. Ontario other schools should have to shrink sizes for sure. I also go to law school in Michigan and the clinic requirement classes in school aren't actually enough to prepare you. articling is important and these solutions won't work. just limit class sizes.

Remove Articling as a Requirement

Market conditions should not dictate one's ability to complete the licensing process. As we continue to see grim market conditions it is inevitable that this problem will continue to balloon. It is already a terrible shame that so many hard working law students cannot be called to the bar because of economics as opposed to their competence and drive. This has to change. Other common law jurisdictions do not have this requirement and intelligent lawyers are licensed to practice in those jurisdictions every year.

Law schools need money and the only ways to get it is: 1) Greater government funding 2) Increased tuition 3) More bums in seats Given the massive deficits being run by the Ontario government and the general public perception of lawyers, I doubt that the government can fund us more. They've also cut out the ability of schools to increase tuition rates with freezes. That means there's only one option left - bums, meet seats.

I do not think any of these proposed solutions will work. The big problem is there are too many law students graduating every year. Why don't they just decrease the amount of seats at Ontario law schools? They have done this in the medical profession to alleviate a shortage of positions for doctors.
