Jason Madden

Jason is co-managing partner of the law firm Pape Salter Teillet LLP. He is called to the bar in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Yukon. His practice is focused on litigation in relation to Indigenous lands, rights and jurisdictions as well as the negotiation and implementation of modern day treaties and self-government agreements. He is recognized as being at the forefront in the advancement of Métis law in Canada and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in all of the cases dealing with the Métis over the last 15 years. He also represents the Manitoba Métis Federation in their negotiations with Canada to address the 2013 SCC’s decision bearing the Federation’s name. Jason has been recognized by Lexpert, BestLawyers and Chambers & Partners as a leading lawyer in the area of Aboriginal law and was named one of the 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada (2014) by Canadian Lawyer. Jason is Métis and a descendant of the ‘Halfbreeds of Rainy Lake and River’ who collectively adhered to Treaty #3 in 1875.
