Poonam Puri is a Professor of Business Law, Governance and Strategy at Osgoode Hall Law School where she has served as Associate Dean (Academic Operations) and Associate Dean (Research).

She teaches in the Rotman-ICD Director Education Program and she practices law at Davies, Ward, Phillips & Vineberg LLP in Toronto.

She is one of Canada’s most respected leaders in corporate governance and corporate law, and trusted by clients for her expansive legal knowledge and sound business judgement. Strategic and pragmatic, Poonam provides incisive counsel to boards, special committees and management on a wide range of corporate governance matters. She has extensive experience conducting governance reviews and independent investigations, and she is regularly asked to serve as an expert witness in significant corporate and securities class action matters involving directors’ legal duties and board and management decision-making. Clients benefit from Poonam’s unique mix of superb legal skills and expertise acquired through her many business, regulatory, academic and public policy leadership roles.

Her experience as a corporate director on the boards of public and private sector organizations, in industries ranging from mining and infrastructure to transportation and healthcare, allows her
to hone in on clients’ needs and expectations. Poonam currently serves on the boards of the Canada
Infrastructure Bank and CAPREIT. She is also Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Holland Bloorview Kids’ Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto. She is a former director of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

Poonam was awarded the 2021 Law Society Medal and she is has previously been recognized as one of Canada's 100 Most Powerful Women and one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 leaders. She has also been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers. Poonam is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law (LL.B., 1995, Silver Medalist) and Harvard Law School (LL.M., 1997).
