A strong advocate for her local community, Emilie Taman is a fierce advocate for refugees, publicly accessible libraries, representation by women, progressive drug policies and governmental transparency. Her advocacy has reached a wider audience through her award-winning podcast The Docket, where she tackles some of the most sensitive legal and political issues and positively impacts Canadian laws, the justice system, the legal profession and civil society. Taman is currently a professor at uOttawa’s Faculty of Law - Common Law Section. She spent most of her career before that as counsel for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, where she specialized in federal regulatory and economic crime prosecutions. She is a former federal NDP candidate, running in both the 2015 federal election and a 2017 by-election.
