Chairman and partner of Stikeman Elliott LLP, William (Bill) Braithwaite led his firm’s team in Lexpert’s #1 deal of 2017 representing Potash Corp. in the Agrium deal wherein the two companies merged to form Nutrien, a new western Canadian-based global giant anticipated to amass annual operating revenues of $500 million. Braithwaite practises primarily in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. In addition to acting on some of the most significant cross-border merger transactions, he has acted as counsel to major Canadian corporations, boards of directors and institutional shareholders, as well as various governments and regulatory authorities. He was counsel on some of the major foreign acquisitions including CNOOC’s acquisition of Nexen, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan’s successful defence of BHP’s unsolicited takeover bid and Lowe’s acquisition of Rona.
