Two Borden Ladner Gervais LLP partners in the firm’s Montreal office have received the Avocat émérite distinction from the Barreau du Quebec.
Marie Audren and Marilyn Piccini Roy received the prestigious distinction in recognition of their contributions to the legal profession and their communities.
“Today we celebrate the accomplishments of Marie and Marilyn, two exemplary lawyers who are true leaders in their practice areas,” said Sean Weir, national managing partner and CEO at BLG in a statement yesterday. “They have both developed a reputation for delivering exceptional service to their clients, and are great role models within BLG for the contributions they have made to the profession.”
As the Montréal regional leader of BLG’s class actions group, Audren has acted in more than 30 class actions to date. In a landmark class action before the Supreme Court of Canada, Marcotte v. Longueuil, she argued on the plaintiff side regarding municipal taxation. She is a member of the class action committee of the Barreau
du Québec and founded the class action section of the Canadian Bar Association’s Quebec division. She is also a former board member of the SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art.
Piccini Roy is counsel to the firm and a member of the wealth management group. Her practice focuses on estates, trusts, regimes of protective supervision, and elder law. She is the secretary of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
“I was truly honoured to be included among this year’s recipients of such a prestigious award by the Barreau du Québec,” says Piccini Roy.
In her community, Piccini Roy is a member of the advisory committee of the MAB-Mackay Legacy Society as well as the bequests and planned gifts campaign committee of McGill University.
Recipients of the Advocatus Emeritus distinction are selected by a committee and are authorized to use the initials Ad. E. after their name.
The distinction is presented annually by the president of the Barreau du Québec at a special ceremony.
