FMC targeting businesses with new micro sites

Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP has started to establish a series of micro web sites to help specific business segments.

Starting off the series is the firm’s technology startup centre, a web site aimed at helping entrepreneurs develop successful business concepts and solutions for innovative technology companies. (Perhaps indicative of a North American reach, the site uses U.S. spellings).

The site provides a guide to legal and business issues startups may face when launching a technology company, from understanding intellectual property to funding and shareholder relations. It also includes a blog on related topics.

FMC says the sites are designed to help clients succeed in achieving their business objectives. But the information on the site is publicly accessible and not restricted to current clients.

FMC’s legal experts in technology, securities, intellectual property, and other related areas maintain the guides and blog. These lawyers are primarily based in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver.

FMC says it is the first Canadian law firm to provide micro sites of this kind as a client information resource.

Some of the latest topics of discussion on the site include:

•    The legal restrictions that may apply to a technology startup;
•    Growth challenges and opportunities;
•    Protecting ideas in a copycat world;
•    The biggest mistakes startups make and how that impacts them down the road.
