Association of Corporate Counsel hosts global summit for Chief Legal Officers

The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is set to host the 2024 Chief Legal Officer Global Summit in Edinburgh, Scotland, an event designed to address the evolving role of Chief Legal Officers (CLOs).

The summit aims to foster a global perspective among legal leaders, encouraging them to prepare for and tackle the challenges of the current business environment. According to the ACC, as businesses operate in an increasingly globalized economy, the role of the CLO has expanded beyond traditional legal responsibilities to encompass broader business leadership and risk mitigation.

The ACC stressed that the summit is expected to provide a platform for legal officers worldwide to discuss pressing issues, share best practices, and form valuable cross-border connections. Participants at the summit will have the opportunity to delve into various key topics that are top of mind for today's legal leaders. These include artificial intelligence, data privacy and cybersecurity, climate change, geopolitical risk, talent development, corporate governance, legal operations, legal professional privilege, leadership challenges, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The summit's agenda is crafted to drive strategic transformation within legal departments, offering insights into leveraging the unique position of the CLO to foster growth and innovation.

The event is characterized by its emphasis on peer-to-peer benchmarking, global brainstorming sessions, and crisis simulation exercises, aiming to enhance the strategic acumen of attending CLOs. With participants from over twenty countries and various industry sectors, the summit offers a rare opportunity for legal professionals to network with a diverse, multinational community, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Highlighting the importance of such collaboration, Gregory Ritts, chief legal and compliance officer at Altisource Portfolio Solutions, S.A., and Dr. Sebastian Lochen, group general counsel at thyssenkrupp, shared their positive experiences from past summits. They emphasized the value of discussing real-world issues, sharing knowledge, and the transformative impact of collaboration on their practice and development.

“For Chief Legal Officers, who often face isolation in their roles, the Summit provides an essential platform to connect with fellow CLOs on relevant topics that fuel our continuous development and growth,” Ritts said.

The 2024 Chief Legal Officer Summit is themed "Driving Strategic Transformation: Leveraging the Unique Perch of the Chief Legal Officer," reflecting its goal to inspire CLOs to build relationships, challenge their perspectives, and adapt to the rapid transformations in the global business environment. The Summit will be held from May 22 to 24 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
