Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) has announced the appointment of its Montreal-based partner Ryan Tomicic as national business leader of its international strategy, in which role he helps link the firm with global enterprises, multinational corporations, and foreign counsel.

Working across the corporate, capital markets, regulatory, and disputes practice groups, he helps BLG furnish coordinated and multidisciplinary advice for inbound investment and cross-border operations.

“As global capital continues to target Canadian opportunities across regulated and high-growth sectors, international clients require sophisticated, multidisciplinary counsel,” said Dave Di Paolo, national managing partner and chief executive officer, in the firm’s news release.

BLG shared that Tomicic and the members of its international leadership team will connect with their peers and clients worldwide during the International Bar Association’s annual conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, from Oct. 4–9.

Aims of appointment

In its news release, the firm noted that Tomicic’s appointment to the leadership role seeks to:

  • Promote BLG’s international growth
  • Building on the foundation set by Lynn McGrade, head of the firm’s national investment management group
  • Support BLG’s cross-border capabilities and inbound market strategy
  • Fortify the firm’s international referral networks
  • Help foreign businesses navigate the Canadian market
