Trust, reliability and accountability emerge as key themes in this year’s awards
Canadian Lawyer has announced the winners of its 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, recognizing 78 organizations across 17 categories for providing outstanding legal technology, services and products to Canadian legal professionals.
The annual awards recognize organizations serving Canadian legal professionals across areas including legal research, practice management software, dispute resolution and other legal services. This year's results also highlight how lawyers evaluate technology providers as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into legal work.
Among the recognized providers are LEAP Legal Software Canada, the Canadian Commercial Arbitration Centre, Thomson Reuters Canada, DivorceMate Software and Clio.
Legal Software Canada earned recognition in the practice area-specific software and solutions category for family law. The company was also named among Canada's leading legal technology, service and product providers.
The Canadian Commercial Arbitration Centre received recognition in the arbitration category. The Montreal-based centre administers disputes without requiring parties to appear in court and offers arbitration procedures designed to resolve commercial disputes.
“As for artificial intelligence, it can assist with organization and administration. But the reasoning in an award, and every authority it cites, is the arbitrator’s responsibility alone and must be personally verified,” said Michel A. Jeanniot, president of the Canadian Commercial Arbitration Centre.
Thomson Reuters Canada secured eight Readers’ Choice Awards across legal research, technology and practice-specific solutions. Its recognized products include Westlaw Canada, Practical Law Canada, ProView, CoCounsel, Drafting Assistant and Legal Tracker, reflecting its range of research and legal workflow tools. The awards cover services ranging from legal research and document drafting to matter management and AI-assisted legal work.
DivorceMate Software received recognition in the family law software and solutions category. The company was also included among the leading legal technology, service and product providers recognized in this year's awards.
Clio earned six Readers’ Choice Awards, including recognition in calendar and docketing, case management, cloud-based practice management, legal document assembly, matter management, and time and billing software. The company also appeared among the leading legal technology providers in Canada.
Clio's general manager, Luke Slan, noted a shift in how law firms approach AI adoption. “Firms are asking sharper questions now than they were a year ago—less ‘should we use AI’ and more ‘how do we govern it,’ which tells us the market has matured past novelty,” Slan said.
The awards were determined through an online survey conducted from June 29 to July 24, 2026. Canadian Lawyer invited readers to vote for their preferred organizations across categories covering legal technology, products and professional services.
Participants could select a set number of organizations in each category and nominate additional providers. The three organizations with the most votes in each category earned the Readers’ Choice designation.
