Miller Thomson joins forces with Zargar Lawyers

Miller Thomson LLP has welcomed Zargar Lawyers to its Vancouver business law team.

Established in 2009, Zargar Lawyers is a boutique law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity, venture capital, growth capital, and corporate and commercial law.

Founder Maryam Zargar is now a partner and leader of Miller Thomson’s corporate group in the Vancouver office. Her practice covers a broad range of corporate and transactional matters, such as M&A, venture capital financings, corporate finance, and corporate governance.

Earlier in her career, Zargar worked as a lawyer at Lindsay Kenney and Fasken Martineau DuMoulin before becoming the managing director of her business law firm. She has also served as chair and board of director member of several corporations and non-profit organizations.

“We have a great opportunity in bringing onboard Maryam Zargar, an entrepreneur who brings her broad experience in founding and developing a boutique law firm, as well as practicing in both an international law firm and as in-house counsel for a technology company,” said Jay Hoffman, chair of Miller Thomson’s business law group. “Maryam’s background, knowledge of the local landscape and dynamic personality will be a significant asset to her role in leading the corporate and M&A group in our Vancouver office.”

The new additions bring Miller Thomson’s lawyer count with relevant experience in corporate, M&A, and securities law to almost 140 across Canada.

Commenting on the merger, Miller Thomson chair Peter Auvinen said: “Over the years, Miller Thomson has successfully grown its national presence through targeted and strategic mergers and acquisitions, and we continue this trajectory with Zargar Lawyers.”

“The addition of the Zargar Lawyers team is an excellent fit with our strategy of continuing to strengthen our Business Law function in the Vancouver region,” added Daniel Kiselbach, managing partner of Miller Thomson’s Vancouver office. “We know that they will uphold Miller Thomson’s standard of high quality, client-centric legal services.”
