Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.

Alexander Holburn

Alexander Holburn has welcomed new partners Chris Reain, Emily Stock and Nicola Brankley to its Toronto office. They are joined by associates Brandon Cook, Grace Tran, and Jeremy Brodeur. The group will join the firm's insurance practice.

Cox & Palmer partner Patrick Fitzgerald, ICD.D has been appointed chair of its board of directors. Fitzgerald is an experienced business lawyer with a robust corporate and commercial practice advising business owners, executives, and boards of directors of private and public companies. His expertise encompasses complex financings, mergers and acquisitions, as well as intellectual property and technology law.

George Cooper, chief executive officer of Cox & Palmer, said, “We are thrilled to have Patrick join our regional board of directors as Chair. Farris LLP

Farris has welcomed Harpreet (Harps) Sidhu to the firm as an associate.  Sidhu has experiencing advising clients on a variety of real estate and corporate/commercial transactions. Before joining Farris, she practised at a boutique firm with a business and real estate focus.

Goodmans LLP

Rachel Summers has joined Goodmans as an associate in the firm’s business group. She was called to the Ontario bar in 2022.

SV Law has welcomed back Matt McMahon to its Guelph office. McMahon has joined the firm’s civil litigation practice group. He has a strong background in trial advocacy and construction law. He has represented various clients, including owners, general contractors, subcontractors, consultants, professional services providers, and insurers. His expertise in construction law encompasses small-scale residential renovations to large, intricate, multi-million-dollar projects.
