Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.

Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer, LLP

Peter Ciechanowski has joined the firm’s energy law group as an associate. He specializes in energy, regulatory, environmental and Indigenous matters. Before joining BD&P, Ciechanowski worked at a national law firm in Calgary, advising on the implications of regulatory and environmental regimes within the energy sector.

Ciechanowski also served as legal counsel to the Government of Alberta, advising on energy and trade issues, including petroleum and natural gas tenure, procurement, project development, carbon capture and storage, geothermal, insolvency and trade disputes.

Clark Wilson LLP

Clark Wilson has announced that its partner, Lyall Knott, has joined the Board of Canada West Foundation.

“I am greatly honoured to have been invited to join the Board of Canada West Foundation and to participate in the only Think Tank focusing on providing pragmatic, non-partisan public policy solutions that benefit not only the West but all of Canada,” Knott said.

McMillan LLP

The firm has welcomed Raphaël Coulombe and Cindy Chung. Coulombe joined as an associate in the firm’s Montréal office. He specializes in litigation and dispute resolution. Chung joined the firm’s Toronto office. She specializes in financial services.

McCarthy Tétrault LLP

The firm has welcomed new partner Julie Belley Perron and new associate Morgane L. Besner to the firm’s business law and environmental groups in Montreal. Perron specializes in piloting complex environmental due diligence reviews and addressing environmental liabilities encountered in merger and acquisition transactions. She has also advised clients through all stages of developing and implementing their industrial, real estate and commercial projects. Before joining McCarthy Tétrault, Perron was the director of legal affairs and operations with a prominent renewable energy producer.

Morgane L. Besner practises environmental, regulatory and aboriginal law. She specializes in conducting due diligence reviews in commercial and real estate transactions and supporting compliance matters and renewable energy projects.

Stikeman Elliott LLP

Senior counsel and restructuring and insolvency practice group leader Karen Fellowes has been appointed chair of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) for the 2024 term. Founded in 1993, IWIRC is an international association dedicated to promoting and advancing women in the insolvency and restructuring profession.
