Marc Krickbaum rejoins Winston & Strawn after role in Biden classified documents probe

Marc Krickbaum, who recently served as U.S. deputy special counsel under Robert Hur in the investigation into President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents, has rejoined Winston & Strawn as a partner.

Krickbaum will work in the litigation department and in government investigations, enforcement, and compliance practice at the firm's Chicago office.

Krickbaum, appointed by former President Donald Trump, previously served as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Iowa. He first joined Winston & Strawn in 2021 after a 13-year career in government, during which time he held roles as an assistant U.S. attorney in both the Northern District of Illinois and the Southern District of Iowa and as counsel to the deputy attorney general.

In his statement, Krickbaum expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the firm, “I am glad to be back at Winston, where I look forward to bringing my experience at Main Justice and multiple U.S. Attorney’s Offices to the firm’s government investigations, enforcement, and compliance practice.”

Krickbaum's background includes extensive experience in investigations, trials, and appeals, representing public and private companies, corporate officers, and individuals in white-collar criminal and regulatory matters, government and internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation.

Cardelle Spangler, managing partner of Winston & Strawn's Chicago office, emphasized the value Krickbaum brings to the team. “Marc’s strategic focus on internal investigations and white-collar defence, and his strong professional network across Illinois and the country, will be a significant value add to our practice and our team in Chicago,” Spangler said.

Winston Chair-Elect Steve D’Amore also highlighted Krickbaum’s expertise. “With his extensive experience in government and understanding of Winston’s culture, Marc will be a driving force to strengthen our roster of distinguished trial lawyers in the white-collar defence bar,” D’Amore stated. “Marc’s deep understanding of white-collar litigation aligns with our vision of adding top-tier litigation attorneys who bring insight and experience to client engagements.”

Krickbaum's return to Winston & Strawn is expected to enhance its capabilities in handling complex government investigations and white-collar defence.
