Roundup of law firm hires, promotions and departures: Week of Mar. 20

Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions and departures.

Aird & Berlis LLP

The Toronto-based firm has appointed one new partner, Paul Jachymek, who is joining the firm’s infrastructure, procurement, construction and corporate/commercial law groups.

Admitted to the Ontario bar in 2003, Jachymek holds a law degree from the University of Windsor. He previously worked for Metrolinx, serving as its senior legal counsel, as well as for Gowling WLG and McCarthy Tétrault LLP.

“His industry expertise and years of experience advising various stakeholders make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said the news release from the firm.

Dentons Canada LLP

Eleni Kassaris has joined the firm’s Vancouver office as partner and as employment and labour practice group leader. Aside from her practice in all areas of employment and labour law, she also focuses on the areas of privacy law and litigation and dispute resolution. She likewise has experience in the fields of complex commercial cybersecurity, pensions, benefits and executive compensation.

John Sandrelli, managing partner of the firm’s Vancouver office, said in a news release that Kassaris’s “strong profile in the employment and labour sector, combined with her unique ability to skillfully guide and counsel her clients at every stage of their dispute” would be a big help to clients.

Called to the B.C. bar in 2002, Kassaris obtained her law degree from Western University. She has worked for firms such as Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and Stikeman Elliott LLP.

In 2015, she was named a Rising Star: Leading Lawyers Under 40 by Lexpert.
