Andrew McLaughlin is Vice President, Legal Affairs, General Counsel, and Sustainability Lead at Major Drilling Group International Inc. (TSX:MDI), the world’s largest drilling services provider to the mining industry. A former Canadian diplomat, Andrew brings a global perspective to legal leadership, having served at embassies in Havana and Mexico City before transitioning to the corporate sector.

He is Vice Chair of Opportunities New Brunswick (ONB), sits on the Editorial Board of Canadian Lawyer Magazine, and is a recognized voice on the evolving role of lawyers in sustainability and governance. Andrew co-edited Building the Case: How Lawyers Are Leading on Sustainability (Springer) and has published widely, including op-eds in The Globe and Mail and The Hill Times. His insights have shaped national policy debates, with submissions cited in the Canadian Senate’s report on diplomacy.

Named Canadian General Counsel Award Winner (Mid-Market Excellence, 2024) and a Lexpert Rising Star, Andrew regularly chairs sustainability and legal innovation forums. He holds degrees in commerce from Mount Allison University and law from the University of New Brunswick, and an LLM in International Business Law from the University of London. Andrew began his legal career as an associate lawyer at Stewart McKelvey.
