Haydey focuses on family law and has a background in psychology and healthcare
The Law Society of Manitoba has awarded this year’s A. Montague Israels, QC Prize to Lisa Haydey in recognition of her academic and career achievements and her community work.
Haydey focuses on family law and has a background in psychology, physiotherapy, and healthcare. She began practising as an associate lawyer with Mitousis Family Law Group in September 2025, according to LinkedIn.
She worked with the Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts as a student-at-law from May 2023 to April 2025. She was also a student-at-law with L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic, where she helped Manitoba-based small businesses, start-ups, entrepreneurs, not-for-profits, charities, artists, and arts and cultural groups pro bono.
Haydey logged a stint with the University of Winnipeg’s psychology department as a teaching assistant in the abnormal behavior in children course taught by Dr. Michael McIntyre. She was also a research assistant at St. Boniface Hospital working with Dr. John Walker from the University of Manitoba’s clinical psychology department.
She champions local environmental initiatives and worked with the OurToba Film Network to boost the profiles of underrepresented filmmakers, such as women, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals. She is a Pitblado Scholar and a 2025 gold medalist.
Haydey received her JD from the University of Manitoba last year. She also holds a masters of physiotherapy from the same university, as well as a bachelor’s degree in honours psychology from the University of Winnipeg.
“Lisa’s accomplishments, character, and commitment to justice embody the legacy of A. Montague Israels,” the Law Society of Manitoba said in a media release. “We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to her continued impact on the legal profession and the community.”
The A. Montague Israels, QC Prize was launched in 1974 and is given to one bar admissions course graduate each year. It honors Abraham Montague Israels, who was a Law Society bencher and the first president of the Jewish Historical Society. He received an MHS Centennial Medal and a City of Winnipeg Community Service Award in the 1970s for his legal and history work.
A special selection committee determines the A. Montague Israels, QC Prize awardee, which is announced at the June Mass Call ceremony. Last year, the prize was won by Melinda Moch.
