Roundup of law firm hires, promotions, departures: June 26, 2023 update

Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.

Dennis James Aitken LLP

Three partners and three associates from the former McEwan Cooper Dennis LLP left the firm to continue their litigation practice by forming a new firm, Dennis James Aitken LLP. The three partners are Craig Dennis, Owen James, and Eric Aitken, while the three associate lawyers are Ray Power, Emily Lennox, and Mitch Ferreira.

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP

Eric Sherbine has joined the firm as a general counsel in Vancouver. Sherbine is an experienced conflicts lawyer who practised labour and employment law with DLA Piper in the United States. Before practising law, he worked for over ten years in the software industry as a project manager, business analyst, engineer, and trainer. His new role with DLA Piper involves identifying and resolving potential ‎conflicts of interest and related compliance issues domestically and internationally.

The firm’s Vancouver office has also welcomed Jennifer Poirier as counsel in the securities group. Poirier has represented clients in various corporate transactions, including public offerings, private placement financings, initial public offerings and stock exchange listings, reverse takeovers and mergers and acquisitions. She is experienced in drafting and advising on various commercial agreements, such as ‎partnership agreements, option agreements, earn-in agreements, joint venture agreements and shareholder ‎agreements.

Fillmore Riley LLP

Amber Harms has joined the firm as an associate in Winnipeg. She specializes in civil litigation and insurance cases.

Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP

TDS has announced that its lawyers, Danielle Grzybowski and Caroline Kiva, left the firm to pursue new opportunities. 

WeirFoulds LLP

WeirdFoulds has welcomed Phil Wallner as an associate to the firm’s commercial litigation practice group. Wallner’s practice encompasses dispute resolution concerning large property owners, property management companies, and commercial tenants, issues concerning the Provincial Offences Act, insolvency cases and general commercial disputes.
