Bennett Jones LLP and Adair Goldblatt LLP were in court representing the parties in litigation for more than $4.4 billion, as both firms led the way in the number of appearances in corporate/commercial cases before the Toronto courts for the week ending May 6, 2022.

Among the commercial list cases this week, the case with the highest amount concerned is Sakab Saudi Holding Company et al v. Saad Khalid s Al Jabri et al with $4,445,000,000. Plaintiff Sakab Saudi Holdings Company and several others are represented by Amanda McLachlan from Bennett Jones LLP. Defendant K. Al Jabri is represented by John Adair from Adair Goldblatt Bieber LLP. Defendants Canadian Growth Investments Limited and several others are represented by Lauren Tomasich from Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Of the 39 parties to the case, 22 of them appear to be unrepresented.

Another notable case is Anson Advisors Inc. et al v. Doxtator et al, with a concerned amount of $111,000,000. McLachlan ‘s litigation practice focuses on complex corporate and commercial disputes, with a particular emphasis on civil fraud, employment litigation and securities litigation disputes and investigations.

Joshua Foster, associate, represented plaintiff Kingsett Mortgage Corporation in Kingsett Mortgage Corporation v. 30 Roe Investment Corp. and applicant Stoneway Capital Corporation and several others in Stoneway Capital Corporation et al. Foster is a restructuring and insolvency associate, developing his practice focus in the financial restructuring of distressed companies in formal proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and Canada Business Corporations Act.

Gregory Azeff, partner, represented M. Matta and one other in Mata et al v. Altmore Mortgage Investment Corporation.
