Bennett Jones, Dentons, LOLG, Lenczner Slaght appear in commercial cases

Bennett Jones and Adair Goldblatt Bieber lawyers represented parties in a multibillion-dollar case, while Dentons, Drudi Alexiou Kuchar, Friedman Law Professional Corporation, Lax O'Sullivan Lisus Gottlieb, Lenczner Slaght, and Ormston List Frawley also appeared in commercial list matters this week.

The week’s most notable commercial case was the $4.445-billion case Sakab Saudi Holding Company et al v Saad Khalid S Al Jabri et al. Here, Bennett Jones LLP partner Amanda McLachlan advised Sakab Saudi Holding Company and eight other plaintiffs. Adair Goldblatt Bieber LLP partner John Adair acted for a defendant. The other defendants appeared to be unrepresented.

McLachlan focuses her practice on corporate and commercial litigation, while Adair handles professional negligence matters and partnership and administrative disputes.

The next most notable commercial case was the $233-million case Shanghai Lianyin Investment Co., Ltd. v Lu et al. Here, Bennett Jones associate Shaan Tolani represented plaintiff Shanghai Lianyin Investment Co. Ltd. Polley Faith LLP partner Andrew Faith advised 2564454 Ontario Inc. and one other defendant. The rest of the defendants appeared to be unrepresented.

Tolani works on corporate and commercial disputes, securities litigation, and financial crime matters, while Faith prosecutes and defends allegations of civil, regulatory, and criminal wrongdoing.

A third notable commercial case was the $120-million case Nobul Technologies Inc. v Reed et al. Here, Tolani acted for plaintiff Nobul Technologies Inc. Kushneryk Morgan LLP partner Susan Kushneryk represented four defendants. Stockwoods LLP partner Samuel Robinson advised three defendants to the counterclaim. The remaining defendants appeared to be unrepresented.

Kushneryk prosecutes securities fraud and acts as counsel in capital markets litigation and class actions. Robinson regularly assists shareholders, officers, and directors of public and private corporations relating to corporate governance disputes and oppression remedies.

Bennett Jones LLP appeared in four cases this week.

Apart from its lawyers’ appearances in the three cases above, the firm was involved in the case of York Region Vacant Land Condominium Corporation No. 1010 v Marcello et al. Robert Staley, partner, acted for plaintiff York Region Vacant Land Condominium Corporation No. 1010.
