Dentons has welcomed Laura Mensch as a partner in its employment and labour group in Calgary, expanding its national practice after adding a ten-person team in Toronto and Ottawa.

Mensch is a management-side employment and labour lawyer with experience advising employers in Alberta. Her practice focuses on workplace matters involving legal and business considerations, including disputes, investigations and employment issues arising from transactions.

Mensch advises federally and provincially regulated employers, public institutions and First Nations. Her experience includes conducting investigations into serious workplace conduct matters, representing clients in labour arbitrations and dismissal proceedings, and advising on employment and labour issues connected to significant transactions.

She has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, human rights tribunals and other administrative tribunals.

“I’ve built my practice around helping employers make decisions they can stand behind, even when the issues are complex,” Mensch said in a statement. She added that the opportunity to work with Dentons’ national employment and labour team attracted her to the firm.

Andy Pushalik, Dentons’ national employment and labour group leader, said Mensch brings experience in addressing workplace issues alongside broader business considerations.

“She sees how workplace issues connect to broader business decisions and brings a practical, collaborative approach to solving them,” Pushalik said. “We’ve built tremendous momentum as a national team, and Laura is exactly the kind of partner who will help us take it further. We are thrilled to have her join the Firm.”

John Cusano, Dentons’ Calgary managing partner, said Mensch’s approach involves understanding each employer's operations and circumstances. “No two employers face the same challenges, and Laura has built her practice around that,” Cusano said. He added that her experience would strengthen the Calgary team and its ability to advise clients across Alberta.

Mensch’s appointment follows Dentons’ addition of a ten-person employment and labour team in Toronto and Ottawa. Partners Richard J. Charney, John Mastoras and Daniel McDonald lead that team.

The firm said the additions respond to growing client needs for employment and labour advice involving workplace decisions and business operations.
