Firm’s new counsel in Montreal advises clients on medical professional liability
McCarthy Tétrault LLP has announced the appointment of Marie-Ève Martineau – a litigator with over two decades of experience spanning medical professional liability, health law, and social services disputes – as Montreal-based counsel in the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution group.
In a news release, the firm highlighted Martineau’s knowledge and understanding of the health sector, encompassing Quebec’s health institutions, the roles and responsibilities of those working within them, and the province’s healthcare-related laws, regulations, directives, and standards.
“Marie-Ève’s reputation for excellence and her command of Québec health law make her a terrific addition to our Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice,” said Tom Sutton, leader of the firm’s national litigation and dispute resolution practice group, in the news release.

Martineau has represented plaintiffs in health law and social services matters, has acted as lead counsel in trials and appeals, and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada.
In its news release, McCarthy Tétrault recognized Martineau’s advocacy skills and her broad perspective on her clients’ challenges and the corresponding solutions.
“Her nuanced expertise provides clients in the sector with a genuine advantage on their complex disputes,” Sutton said.

She received her master’s degree in health law at Université de Sherbrooke in 2014. She graduated magna cum laude with an LLB from the University of Ottawa in 2003. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences in 2000, also at the University of Ottawa.
