NRF announces new global chair
Andrew Robinson has been appointed global chair of Norton Rose Fulbright.
The former head of the firm’s Cape Town office and continuing chair of the South Africa region is a transport law expert with more than 30 years of experience.
He takes over the global chair role from the firm’s Canada chair Walied Soliman and will serve for one year.
“I am honored to be appointed to the Global Chair role. The firm has ambitious and exciting plans for this year, and I look forward to playing an active role in the delivery of these,” said Robinson.
Gowling WLG gets competitive for Commonwealth Games 2022
International firm Gowling WLG has a major role to play in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The firm has been announced as the official sponsor of both Team Canada and Team England and will act as official legal adviser to Commonwealth Games Canada and Commonwealth Games England.
The dual role will create an interesting dynamic for the firm’s lawyers and staff on both sides of the Atlantic.
"Here in Canada, everyone is looking forward to cheering on our athletes at Birmingham 2022. There’s nothing wrong with a little friendly competition across the firm – so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the medal count and hoping that Team Canada comes out on top over Team England,” quipped James Buchan, firm managing partner for clients & markets at Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP.
The games will take place in Birmingham, UK, and the firm’s chief executive David Fennell is also looking forward to the competition.
"There will be some healthy competition across the firm as we keep an eye on the medal table at Birmingham 2022, and we're looking forward to seeing who comes out on top between Team England and Team Canada," he said.
Both teams picked up multiple medals at the last Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast; Team England won 136 medals, including 45 golds, while Team Canada won 82 medals – including 15 gold.
18 partners join MoFo
The latest promotions at Morrison Foerster has created 18 new partners from multiple practice groups across six offices in the U.S., Asia, and Europe.
The 8 women and 10 men were promoted with effect from January 1, 2020.
