Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures and other announcements.

Aird & Berlis LLP

The firm congratulates Timothy M. Lowman, who was elected secretary of the board of directors for the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada for 2020-2021. A partner in the Toronto-based firm, Lowman heads the firm’s intellectual property group and belongs to its litigation and dispute resolution group.

Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP

The firm has announced that Jonathan Sherman is program director of the Certificate in Cannabis Law and Regulation at Osgoode Hall Law School. Sherman is a Toronto-based partner who serves as co-chairperson of the firm’s cannabis group and as a member of its securities group.

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP

Jordan Deering has joined the firm as partner in its Calgary office. Deering has nearly two decades of experience in all aspects of fraud, corruption, ‎white collar crime and corporate investigations.

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP

Andrea Boctor is a new partner in the firm’s pensions and benefits group in Toronto. Boctor’s practice in the field of pensions and benefits spans matters such as pension administration, investment structuring and compliance and pension issues arising in the context of transactions, lending and restructurings.

“Our clients will be able to rely on her proven ability to effectively solve the most challenging and novel business issues that can arise, particularly in the current climate,” said Paul Litner, chairperson of the firm’s pensions and benefits group.
