Rachel Notley

Premier of Alberta

Premier of Alberta and leader of the province’s NDP, Rachel Notley focused her practice on labour law, workers compensation and workplace health and safety prior to her political career. During her tenure, Notley has dealt with the Fort McMurray fire, the opioid epidemic and has raised the minimum wage to $15 an hour. She has been present in the national news for months as she and B.C. Premier John Horgan battle over the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline. She has butted heads with federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh over the pipeline as well. Notley has supported Trudeau’s proposed purchase of the Trans Mountain Pipeline and advocated for a carbon tax in Alberta. Notley stood up for Fort McMurray wildfire victims by threatening to change the Alberta Insurance Act if insurance companies did not offer extensions for their claims. She has added to “male” and “female” a third option, “x”, for all vital statistics records to promote the rights of transgender people.

WHAT VOTERS HAD TO SAY:
“Notley is a force to be reckoned with and has made her way into the pantheon of strong, independent and influential premieres in Canada.”
