As the B.C. government continues its crackdown on money laundering, the Law Society of B.C. is proposing a rule change relating to trust funds plus issued guidelines for private loans agreements in a bid to protect lawyers from becoming collateral damage.
British Columbia has brought in amendments to its Supreme Court Civil Rules regulations, which will limit the number of experts and expert reports that can be used in motor vehicle disputes, with further amendments effective next year on all injury claims.
Job action by B.C. legal aid lawyers — set to begin April 1 — has been averted as the B.C. government and the Legal Services Society have contributed funds to an interim agreement that puts $7.9 million into a tariff bonus system for legal aid lawyers over the next six months.
